Peace Camp in Rwanda
First Baptist Church Toronto
Mission Trip
July 25 – Aug 4, 2014
“Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.” Romans 12:21
Dear Family and Friends,
I am excited to inform you of my participation in a youth peace camp* in Rwanda (Africa) this summer as a member of our church’s mission team. The peace camp is a meaningful annual event that greatly encourages youth — many of whom are orphans — in their peace-building efforts in a region that struggles to recover from conflict and poverty.
2014 is a significant time in Rwanda as the country marks the 20th Commemoration of the Genocide. Our team will work alongside youth from across Rwanda, Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo who are committed to being peace catalysts in their communities.
Our team (Alex, Shanice & Joseph) will provide training in conflict resolution, peer counseling, arts and entrepreneurship as well as opportunities to share and reflect on the legacy of genocide and ensure that it is never repeated. The workshops are meant to be fun, interactive and promote inner peace that springs from God’s love and grace. It is sure to be a mutually transformative experience for everyone!
Naturally, this life-changing opportunity comes with a significant commitment, one of which is to raise $3,500 per person to participate. I would greatly appreciate your prayerful and financial support. All donations of $20 or more will be tax receipted and will be used for the mission mandate. (Please make your donation to “First Baptist Church Toronto” and reference “For Rwanda 2014”). You may also donate online at CanadaHelps.org.
Thank you so much for your kind and prayerful consideration. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Love and peace,
Rev. Wendell Gibbs
